Forage Collection North Atlantic Ocean samples yield as much as 520,000 plastic bits per square mile, giving credence to the belief 70% of global marine debris is plastic-based. Most of this waste begins on land then migrates to sea via streams, rivers, and sewers. It’s then caught up in powerful currents that trap and pulverize it, resulting in a chunky plasticized soup. As a Naval Oceanographer I served in Japan 9 years; without a ‘plan’ I was compelled to pluck plastic eyesores from the beaches. I now strive to transform this environmental pox into incarnations that possess strange yet undeniably emotive beauty.
